Dr. Bithika M. Thompson is a distinguished clinical endocrinologist with over a decade of experience managing complex endocrine disorders at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. She earned her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Lipid Research at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Thompson joined Mayo Clinic Arizona in 2014 and served as Chair of the Department of Endocrinology prior to joining MD2.
Dr. Thompson joins MD² as a primary care physician deeply committed to collaborative, patient-centered care. She educates and empowers individuals by integrating the latest clinical science with shared decision-making, creating personalized wellness plans that reflect each patient’s unique needs, lifestyle, and goals. Her approach combines medical expertise with genuine compassion, fostering a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively engaged in their health journey.
Prior to MD², Dr. Thompson was recognized for her expertise in endocrine disorders, including diabetes, thyroid conditions, obesity, and osteoporosis. At Mayo Clinic Arizona, she co-founded the Diabetes Technology Clinic, which grew tenfold under her leadership. Her clinical focus included using advanced diabetes technology systems to improve patient outcomes.
A passionate advocate for diabetes research and education, Dr. Thompson serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Southwest Chapter of Breakthrough T1D (Type 1 diabetes). She leads outreach and educational initiatives and maintains a national presence through speaking engagements that promote research and awareness.
In addition to her clinical and advocacy work, Dr. Thompson is a dedicated educator. She served for 7 years as the Endocrine Block Leader for Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, where she provided didactic instruction, physical exam training, and pharmacology reviews to second-year medical students. Her commitment to education spans medical students, residents, allied health professionals, and continuing medical education (CME) audiences.
Her excellence has been recognized with multiple “Top Doctors” honors from Phoenix Magazine and accolades by the Mayo Clinic School of Continuous Professional Development as a top faculty member.
Outside of MD², Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time with her family and her dog. She is an avid hiker and pickleball enthusiast with a passion for exercise and healthy living.
